South Wales Police Authority

Statement on Internal Control

Statement on Internal Control

This statement of internal control is given in respect of the statement of accounts for the South Wales Police Authority as at 31 March 2009.

It is designed to manage risk to a reasonable level rather than to eliminate all risk of failure to achieve policies, aims and objectives. It can therefore only provide reasonable and not absolute assurance that assets are safeguarded, that transactions are authorised and properly recorded, and that material errors or irregularities are either prevented or would be detected within a timely period.

The system of internal control is based on a framework of regular management information, financial regulations, administrative procedures (including segregation of duties), management supervision, and a system of delegation and accountability. Managers within the Authority undertake development and maintenance of the system.
