South Wales Police provides a 24-hour service, 365 days a year.
We are always accessible and able to provide our communities with a service that is responsive to its needs.
Policing Structure
South Wales is policed by four territorial divisions or Basic Command Units (BCU's) each commanded by a Police Chief Superintendent:
-
Northern (Rhondda Cynon Taf & Merthyr Tydfil) – Chief Superintendent Kevin O'Neill
-
Eastern (Cardiff) – Chief Superintendent Alun Thomas
-
Central (Bridgend & Vale of Glamorgan) – Chief Superintendent Liane James
-
Western (Neath Port Talbot & Swansea) – Chief Superintendent Mark Mathias
Divisional Commanders work closely with the Authority and other agencies in developing partnerships to fight crime and make communities safer.
The Force strength on 31 March 2012 consisted of 2893 officers, 1931 members of the support staff, of which 306 are Police Community Support Officers.
Our financial resources for 2012-13 include a revenue budget of £249million.
